National Webinar on ?Research Avenues in VLSI Design?

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University organised a national-level webinar on ?Research Avenues in VLSI Design?. The webinar has received overwhelming responses from the students, academicians, and industry personnel with more than 110 registered participants from reputed industries and research organizations like SAC ? ISRO, eInfochips, Robert Bosch, etc. Researchers from the Florida Atlantic University, BD College of Eng. Pune, LD College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, DDIT-Nadiad. The sessions were delivered by the experts of the respective domains from Various IITs and IIIT.

Mr Vibhumauli Hunsigida, Software Development Director, Advanced Micro Devices was the chief guest at the function, and Dr R N Patel, Director Institute of Technology, Nirma University presided over the function. Mr Vidhumauli delivered a keynote lecture on, ?VLSI Design: An Industry Perspectives?.

The first session conducted by Dr Joycee Mekie, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, was on ?Radiation Harden VLSI Design Issues and Challenges?.

The second session on Machine Learning and VLSI Design was delivered by Dr Shantnu Chattopadyay, Director at IIIT, Kalyani on Machine learning and the recent developments that can be applied to the VLSI Design in various ways.

Dr A K Singh Distinguished Chair Professor in Artificial Intelligence, IIT Kharagpur, delivered his talk on ?Opportunities in VLSI Design Testing and Verification?.

The last session of the webinar was delivered by Dr Tarun Kanti Bhattacharya, Professor, E&ECE Department, IIT Kharagpur, Dr Tarun presented the entire flow of the design of MEMS-based sensor, starting from the design concept to the actual fabricated chip.

The second day started with the talk of Dr Rajesh Zele, Professor in Electrical Engineering Department IIT, Bombay. Dr Zele discussed the basics of RF IC design. He presented the issues in the design of high-frequency circuits.

The next speaker Dr Sudeb Dasgupta, Professor and Head of Department of EC in IIT, Roorkee delivered his talk on ?Latest Trends in Device Modeling and Simulations?.

Dr Maryam Shojaei Baghini, Professor in EE Department of IIT-Bombay, then delivered her talk on ?Opportunities in Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI Design?. Dr Baghini shared her recent research in the field and motivated the participants to carry out more research in the mixed domain VLSI Design.

The post-lunch session of the webinar started with a session by Dr Preeti Ranjan Panda, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi, and the Associated Faculty of the Khosla School of Information Technology. He delivered his talk on ?Opportunities in VSLI CAD and System-Level Design?.

The valedictory function started with the oral feedback from the participants and ended with the e-certificate distribution. The webinar provided an excellent opportunity for all the participants to interact on the common platform and to grow in the field of VLSI Design.
