GUJCOST sponsored Two-Day National Webinar on ?Micro-Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) Design?

A Two-Day National Webinar on ?Micro-Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) Design? was organised during November 28-29, 2020 through WebEx platform. This webinar was partially funded by the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST). All the sessions in this webinar were conducted by the renowned experts from Industry and Academic Institutes. The registration of the webinar was open for engineering students of UG, PG and PhD program, faculty members and industry personnel across the nation. More than 30 participants from different regions participated in this National level seminar. The webinar was coordinated by Dr Piyush Bhatasana and Dr Dhaval Shah from Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, IT-NU.  The inaugural session was chaired by the HoD, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, IT-NU. The webinar was planned for two days from 8.45 am to 4.00 pm with expert sessions as well as a demonstration of the design of MEMS switches in CoventerWare and HFSS software which is utilized in the industry for design and fabrication of MEMS switches. Both the coordinators and the following experts were the resource persons who conducted sessions in the webinar:

  • Dr Shiban Koul, Professor, IIT-Delhi
  • Dr Tarun Kanti Bhattacharyya, Professor, IIT-Kharagpur
  • Dr Shailendra Singh, Scientist, SAC-ISRO
  • Dr Deepak Bansal, Principal Scientist, CSIR-CEERI (Pillani)
  • Dr Sonachand Adhikari, Senior Scientist, CSIR-CEERI (Pillani)
  • Mr Rajesh Tammareddy, Sr Application Engineer, CoventorWare
  • Mr Anuroop Bajpai, SRF, CSIR-CEERI (Pillani)

The objective of the webinar was to provide an introduction to MEMS Switches, its current applications and design of MEMS switches in the software (CoventorWare and HFSS) which is used by Industry for design of MEMS switches.  The key focus of this webinar was to familiarize the participants with the application of MEMS switches in the current scenario through interaction with renowned academician, scientist and experts who are working on it. Importantly, the demonstration of MEMS switch design in the Industry accepted software was conducted interactively to give a start to participants in the field of MEMS design and provide them with a platform to learn the design of MEMS switches.

The content covered in the webinar was as follows:

  1. Introduction to MEMS
  2. MEMS applications
  3. Design and Development of RF MEMS Switch Products for usage in space missions
  4. MEMS based LED
  5. MEMS Based Sensors and Actuators
  6. RF MEMS Devices
  7. Demonstration MEMS switch design in CoventorWare
  8. Demonstration MEMS switch design in HFSS

Formal and informal feedback was taken at the end of the webinar which was very positive.  Certificates were issued to all participants who had registered and attended all the sessions.
