The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Technology, Nirma University, successfully organised an ISTE-approved Two-Week Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Edge AI and Vision” from June 22 to July 4, 2026.
Coordinated by Dr. Dhaval Shah and Dr. Rutul Patel, the programme aimed to enhance knowledge and hands-on skills in emerging areas of Edge Artificial Intelligence, Embedded Vision, TinyML, and Intelligent Embedded Systems.
The STTP featured a mix of expert lectures and hands-on sessions by academicians and industry professionals. Key areas covered included: Smart Python & Computer Vision for real-time applications RTOS, TinyML & Real-time Inference on edge devices Deep Learning Models & Deployment Pipelines for Edge AIAI on FPGA, MATLAB for Edge AI, and Sensor Data Processing Applications in Healthcare and Wellness. Distinguished speakers joined from Nirma University, IIT Mandi, IIT Gandhinagar, DAU (formerly DA-IICT), and international experts from California, USA. Industry leaders from MathWorks and Mantra Softech shared insights on real-world Edge AI and embedded vision deployments.
As part of the experiential learning, participants visited SPAN Inspection Systems Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad on 1 July 2026 to observe the practical implementation of Edge AI and Computer Vision in industrial inspection and automation.“This STTP provided participants with both theoretical foundations and practical exposure to deploy AI at the edge, bridging the gap between academia and industry,” said Dr. Dhaval Shah, STTP Coordinator.
The programme was attended by faculty members from different departments of Institute of Technology, Nirma University.
